ORLU REGIONAL ASSEMBLY (ORA), USA, INC.          10th NATIONAL CONVENTION

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK JUNE 17th – 20th, 2010

COMMUNIQUE

The recently concluded national convention of Orlu Regional Assembly, USA (ORA USA) held in New York City, New York on June 17-20, 2010, hosted by Orlu Cultural Federation (OCUFE) NY, an ORA USA affiliate, attracted energized and enthusiastic Orlu indigenes from over the world. Over 1500 people attended the convention, which has been described as one of the best ORA, USA conventions.

Among the star studded audience that graced this year’s Convention with their distinguished presence were the former Governor of Imo State and the immediate past Minister of Commerce and industries in Nigeria, Chief Achike Udenwa, who is a Grand Patron of the organization, ORA patrons Prof. A.G. Anwukah and Chief G.G.E. Iheka, Federal and State legislators of Orlu origin, Industrialists, Business Executives, Traditional rulers including but not limited to HRH Eze C.I. Ilomuanya; as well as civic and religious leaders.

 

The delegates expressed unwavering support and confidence in the administration of Chief Chris Onwuzurike; they were elated in the visionary leadership. The following resolutions were adopted at the convention by the delegates:

  1. 1. ORAUSA reaffirm its commitment for the corporate existence of the zone as it is now and opposes in unequivocal terms any proposal that will lead to delimitation/delineation of any part of the region or LGA from the present 12 LGA of Orlu Senatorial district.
  2. 5. ORA USA supports good governance and encourages people oriented candidates to run for office at all levels of the state.
  3. 6. That the Assembly implement Youth development programs for future Orlu leaders
  4. 8. That ORA constitution be amended to accommodate ORA Convention Proceeds Sharing tiers:  accordingly, it was resolved that 50% of convention proceeds be dedicated to ORA projects, while the other 50% percent would be split between National and Hosting affiliate.
  1. Njaba State Creation: Continued support-financially and otherwise for Njaba State creation based on the existing geographical composition with proposed capital at Orlu. If there is a need to change the name of the proposed state to Urashi State, name change may be accommodated only at the end of the state creation process, with concrete assurance that the state capital shall be located in Orlu Town; that entire Orlu people in the United States and at home shall unite for the purpose of actualization of Njaba State.
  2. Orlu Unity: That our community leaders, traditional rulers and elected officials shall let go of personal interests and unnecessary squabbles to work together for common Orlu agenda/goal.
  3. ORA, USA affirmed its commitment to democracy, security and rule of law in Imo State. Delegates at the convention urged Imo State government to obey the rules of law; ensure that the poor masses benefit from the dividends of democracy; security of lives and property shall be the top priority of the state; and fiscal responsibility shall be the hallmark of the state government.
  1. ORA, USA in collaboration with Dick Tiger family shall lobby Imo State and Federal Government of Nigeria to establish monuments in honor of the late boxing legend, to immortalize his name, in view of his contributions to boxing, humanity and his personal endeavors to position Nigeria in the sporting global map.

The delegates at the convention unequivocally endorsed the following new programs presented by the administration:

  1. Annual stake-holders summit in Orlu in December/January each year.
  2. Creation of Emeka Chinedu philanthropy award.
  3. Creation of Orlu person of the year award.
  4. Adoption of social media networks such as face book, twitter, linkedin and improve ORA website.
  5. Establishment of ORA Pay pal account.

The following new programs were introduced, but not finalized:

  1. Establishment of ORA, USA foundation;
  2. Establishment of ORA, USA political action committee ( PAC); and
  3. Establishment of ORA, USA bereavement insurance program for affiliate members.

The following ORA, USA projects were identified:

  1. New auditorium construction at Imo State University Teaching Hospital at Orlu.
  2. Annual medical mission starting in December, 2010.
  3. Provide water boreholes at various LGAs in Orlu.
  4. Text books supply on specific subjects for JS3 and SS3 at selected secondary schools in Orlu.
  5. Micro finance project for widows in Orlu.

The convention ended on June 20th 2010 with the Passing of the convention Hosting Flag Ceremonies from the 2010 host affiliate (New York) to 2011 Host affiliate (Washington, DC.)
